According to a recent Ernst & Young report, venture capital investment in green tech/clean tech companies for the second quarter 2010 hit $1.5 billion -- a 63.8% increase from the same quarter in 2009 and the highest amount since the third quarter of 2008. Come join an all-star group of early-stage clean tech companies seeking funding as they present their business plans:

  • Brooklyn Motorized Corp. (www.brooklynmotorized.com) has invented an electric motorcycle with a removable battery pack.
  • Fiberight LLC (www.fiberight.com) has the technology, currently used in its plant in Iowa, to convert trash to biomass fuel.
  • Global GSC, Inc. has developed a patented EPA verified portable emissions measurement system to measure carbon and other air pollutants from mobile sources.
  • Skystream Markets Inc. (www.skystreammarkets.net) is developing a trading platform for carbon credits.

Lori Hoberman
Partner, Chadbourne & Parke LLP

Lori S. Hoberman is the chair of the Emerging Companies / Venture Capital practice. Her practice emphasizes venture capital, private equity, and general corporate counseling for emerging as well as later stage and publicly traded companies. She focuses on a range of industries, including telecommunications, software, biotechnology and life sciences, real estate, consumer products, Internet search and advertising, gaming and other media.

Ms. Hoberman has significant experience in the structuring of, and tax planning for, domestic and offshore private equity funds.

Governor George Pataki
Pataki Cahill Group

Governor George Pataki’s practice focuses on energy, environmental and corporate matters. Prior to joining Chadbourne & Parke LLP, he served three terms as the 53rd governor of New York state, from 1995 through 2006. First elected in 1994, he won re-election in 1998 and 2002. Governor Pataki brings to Chadbourne broad experience in law and public service. He was a partner in the New York law firm of Plunkett & Jaffe until 1987. He was elected mayor of Peekskill, New York in 1981, and served in the New York State Legislature as an assemblyman and then a senator from 1985 to 1994, before becoming governor.

During his tenure as New York’s chief executive, Governor Pataki advanced award-winning, cutting-edge policies in the renewable energy and environmental fields. His initiatives included the protection of over one million acres of open space, the adoption of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, the implementation of the nation’s first green building tax credit, landmark brownfield legislation and programs to enhance the production and use of alternative energy like biodiesel, ethanol, fuel cells and clean coal.

In addition, Pataki has formed an environmental consulting firm with his former chief of staff John Cahill, the Pataki-Cahill Group and work with the Council on Foreign Relations on climate change issues. In the climate change issue, he is working with former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack. He also serves as the Vice-Chairman of the board of directors for the American Security Council Foundation.
Josh Wolfe
Co-Founder and Managing Partner
Lux Capital Management

Josh Wolfe is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Lux Capital Management focusing on investments in the physical and life sciences. Mr. Wolfe manages Lux`s investments in Nanosys, Cambrios, Siluria and serves on the Board of Directors of Kurion, Silicon Clocks, Crystal IS and Lux Research. Before forming Lux Capital, he worked in Salomon Smith Barney`s Investment Banking group, in capital markets at Merrill Lynch on its Financial Futures & Options/Government Strategy desk and at Prudential Securities in Municipal Finance.

Prior to venturing into the financial world, Mr. Wolfe published cutting-edge AIDS-immunopathology research in Cell Vision and The Journal of Leukocyte Biology, leading medical-immunology journals. He serves as co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Coney Island Prep, the first charter school in his native Coney Island, Brooklyn, and has been actively involved with the East Harlem School at Exodus House for over a decade. The son of a public school teacher, Josh is passionate about science, inner-city education and kids having a deep desire to learn and the right heroes.

Josh is a columnist with Fobes, Editor for the Forbes/Wolfe Emerging Tech Report and host of a show on the Forbes Video Network. He has been an invited guest to the White House and Capitol Hill to advise on nanotechnology and emerging technologies, a lecturer at MIT, Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Columbia and NYU, and a frequent guest on CNBC and CNN. Mr. Wolfe graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Economics and Finance.
Steve Brotman
Managing Director, Greenhill & Co.

Steve Brotman is a Managing Director of Greenhill & Co, and co-founder and co-head of Greenhill SAVP. Prior to founding SAVP in 1998, Steve was the founder, CEO and Chairman of AdOne Classified Network, one of the nation`s leading classified ad web sites which was acquired by Hearst, Scripps and Advance-Newhouse.

While at SAVP, Steve was a finalist for the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2000 and was named in Crain`s 2001 Tech 100. While at AdOne, Steve was selected for the 1997 Crain`s Top 25 Players Shaping Silicon Alley and the 1995 Top 40 under 40 among New York businessmen.

Steve currently serves on the boards of Mobile Commons, ReachForce, Critical Mention and Knovel (Observer) and has previously served on the boards of Medidata (Observer), DataSynapse (Observer) and UGO (acquired by Hearst in 2007). In addition, Steve serves on the board of the MIT Enterprise Forum`s New York chapter and has served as a mentor and judge for the Columbia Business School Lang and Greenhouse Funds.

Steve received his undergraduate degree in Economics from Duke University and a joint JD/MBA degree with honors from Washington University.

 

John Cote
Vice President
Venture Capital Portfolio

As the portfolio manager for GE Energy Financial Services` venture capital team, Mr. Cote manages all aspects of global and domestic energy technology venture capital investments with a focus on risk monitoring, internal and external opportunity development, and return enhancement / principal recovery. Prior to joining GE, Mr. Cote was Director, Business Management, for FPL Energy, where he managed a wind energy portfolio of more than 2,000 megawatts in Texas. Before FPL, he worked for Duke Energy in Houston as a Director in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, focusing on various commercial and strategy projects, and for Enron Europe`s weather risk management group in London.

In Washington, D.C., Mr. Cote managed global competitive intelligence projects, and negotiation strategy and team response to kidnap and ransom crises at Parvus International. He also taught kindergarten in St. Petersburg, Russia, and high school English in Warsaw, Poland. Mr. Cote received a Bachelor of Arts in Russian and International Affairs (dual) from the University of New Hampshire, and a Master of Business Administration from Rice University.
Stella Grizont
Vice President of Marketing
Ladies Who Launch Corporation

Stella Grizont has supported thousands of women in making their dreams come true. She is the Managing Director of Ladies Who Launch in New York City and New Jersey, along with her partner, Karla Lightfoot. Previously Stella worked with the Ladies Who Launch Corporation as the Vice President of Marketing where she helped catapult the brands presence from 35 markets to 54 markets in the US & Canada. Stella co-authored and designed the new Incubator Intensive workshop, taught internationally to women launchers. During her role as VP, Grizont managed and trained a global staff of 75 Incubator Leaders.

Stella has been featured on the Today Show, Reuters, Yahoo News, The New Jersey Star Ledger, and other media channels for her expertise in business and entrepreneurship. She also runs her own brand consultancy and currently is an early contributor to new-breed communication agency, Living Breathing, where she consults for clients such as Nintendo, NBC, and McGraw-Hill. Previously she served as Senior Brand Strategist at Young & Rubicam on the Dannon and Pepperidge Farm accounts.

Grizont has been published in iMedia and quoted in AdAge for her keen insights on cultural and consumer trends. She received accolades from the Campbell`s Soup Company for her ethnographic research and won a Y&R Leadership Award for creating an inspiration/motivation initiative for employees. Stella graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University where she serves on the Alumnae Leadership Development committee.
